This Is Love

image11

This being the Christmas Season, the next two postings will be on songs that are sung at our church during this time of year. They are beautiful. I hope you will go to the bottom of the devotion, click on the video, and really listen to the words as they are sung.

Verse 1:

Heaven's splendor left behind

The King of glory born to die

God and man to reconcile

You came to offer up Your life

Verse 2:

Worship fell that holy night

Angel voices filled the sky

Lowly shepherds raise their eyes

Following the star so bright

Chorus:

This is love, this is love

Incarnate King, begotten Son

This is love, this is love

You choose to make Your home in us

Bridge:

Come, Thou long expected Jesus

Born to set Thy people free

From our fears and sins release us

Let us find our rest in Thee

Devotion

Heaven's 'splendor' left behind. What is 'splendor?' The definition states 'great brightness or luster, magnificence, brilliancy, grandeur, majesty, nobility. These are words that describe who was left behind. Who was left behind for us.

Jesus, the King of glory, who came to this earth as a defenseless, totally dependent little baby. Just like you and me. However, His was a mission of death. A mission of death for all of us. He was born only to offer up His life so humans could be reconciled back to God. Sin, which had its beginning in the Garden of Eden, separates us from God. A 'way' had to be made to bring us out of sin and back to God. Jesus is the Way. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. Jesus is the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved - Acts 4:11-12.

Please note, the song says 'offer up Your life.' You see, no one was able to 'take' Jesus' life. He had the power to save Himself from the horrible death He experienced. Instead, He trusted in God, His Father, knowing that He would be granted the ultimate victory. The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life - only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my father - John 10:17-18.

Worship fell that holy night. Angels singing with loud voices. Lowly shepherds looking up and following that bright star. What an amazing experience that had to be! An experience that is possible for each and every one of us today, right now, in the present. "How?" you say. Through the Love. Oh yes, this is Love. Once you begin to comprehend exactly what has been done for you, the love that God has for you, you can't help but love Him back. With that love comes worship and with worship comes singing. Once you begin to see the star of Jesus, just like the shepherds, you will begin to follow that star.

Just what are you following now? Can this world, or anything in it, really make you joyful or give you an everlasting peace that transcends all understanding? No! Because of sin, we are broken, unworthy, unloving people who continue to spit in God's face while He just keeps on loving us! Wake up sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you - Ephesians 5:14. 'Sleeper' being someone who refuses to acknowledge God and 'dead' being someone living a life of sin. Rise up and let Jesus totally change your life!

He chooses to make His home in us. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! - 2 Corinthians 9:15.

This is Love, this is Love!!

Merry Christmas
