Nourishment for your soul

Nourishment for your soul Nourishment for your soul

Come What May (We Are Messengers)

Verse 1:

Sometimes sorrow is the door to peace

Sometimes heartache is the gift I need

You're faithful, faithful in all things

Chorus:

In every high, in every low

On mountain tops, down broken roads

You're still my rock, my hope remains

I'll rest in the arms of Jesus

Come what may

Verse 2:

There is deep joy that You give to me

Where hurt meets the healing is a holy thing

I see goodness, Your goodness

In all things, yeah

Bridge:

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want

He makes me lie down in green pastures

Oh, the Lord is my shepherd, leads me to still waters

And He restores my soul

Devotion

'Come what may' means regardless of what happens, regardless of our circumstances. Regardless of all else, Jesus, and only Jesus, is our reality. He alone will get us through this thing called 'life.' Let's take a look....

The song says that sometimes sorrow is the door to peace. How can this be? "Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death." - 2 Corinthians 7:10. When we ask the Lord to come into our life and we repent of our sins, He gives us an indescribable peace. Only in Him can our sorrows lead us into peace.

The song also says that sometimes we need heartaches, that they are a gift. How can this be? "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." - Psalm 34:18. Our brokenness, our heartaches, and our crushed spirits lead us to His saving power. In this way they do in fact, become gifts. Only Jesus can change how we look at heartaches.

Jesus is faithful...in all things. "The Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one." - 2 Thessalonians 3:3. It is impossible for Him to be to us anything but faithful, even when we are not. On this fact we can stake our lives. "If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself." - 2 Timothy 2:13. Only on Him can we truly rely.

When our life puts us high up on the mountaintop and when it pushes us down low into brokenness, Jesus is still our rock. "Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock." - Matthew 7:24. Jesus is still our hope. Our hope of a better life that is not of this world. "In this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?" - Romans 8:24-25. Our rest is found only in Him. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." - Matthew 11:28. Come what may....He is our Rock, our Hope, and our Rest.

Jesus gives us deep joy. "You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand." - Psalm 16:11. It's a joy that cannot be found anywhere else. "The kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit." - Romans 14:17. It's a joy that is always present....come what may.

The song goes on to say that when the hurt meets the healing, it's a holy thing. This is because Jesus heals our hurts in a very intimate and spiritual way. "Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits - who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases." - Psalm 103:2-3. He is the only one who can turn our sorrows into peace and our heartaches into gifts....come what may.

The goodness of Jesus is seen in all things. He is the gift of God's grace to us. We don't have to work for it, we just have to have faith in it. "It is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." - Ephesians 2:8-9. A goodness that we will forever experience....come what may.

Ah Yes! Psalm 23. "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want." He is our protector and provider. "He makes me lie down in green pastures." Only in Him will we find a better life. "He leads me to still waters." He gives us peace. "He restores my soul." He puts us back to our original state before sin entered the picture, where God meant us to be. Only He can do all this....come what may.

Nothing on this earth, except Jesus, will ever bring us the joy and peace that we crave. God has made it so clear that we will never experience wholeness without His presence. That it's only in the arms of Jesus we are safe....Come What May!

So, are you a follower of Jesus....come what may?
