Verse 1:
Christ is my firm foundation
The rock on which I stand
When everything around me is shaken
I've never been more glad
That I put my faith in Jesus
Cause He's never let me down
He's faithful through generations
So why would He fail now?
He won't
Verse 2:
I've still got joy in chaos
I've got peace that makes no sense
I won't be going under
I'm not held by my own strength
Cause I've built my life on Jesus
He's never let me down
He's faithful n every season
So why would He fail now?
He won't
He won't fail
Bridge:
Rain came, wind blew
But my house was built on You
I'm safe with You
I'm gonna make it through
Cause I'm standing strong on You
A foundation is 'a basis upon which something stands or is supported; establishment.' When the singer speaks of Christ being their firm foundation, it means their life, in all its entirety, is built upon Him. He is their foundation. He is their rock. "Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock." - Matthew 7:24. When a life is built upon this particular foundation, there is nothing much that can shake it. When everything, and everyone else around is being shaken by circumstances, whatever they may be, the life that is built upon Jesus will remain steadfast and strong.
All we have to do is look around or listen to our local news to see how shaky life is. There's not another foundation on which to build a life that will stand the tests this world can throw at us. There is no other foundation; not finances, health, government, family, friends, or education, that can hold us up and support us like the foundation of Jesus. All others can crumble in the blink of an eye. But Jesus, He never crumbles. He never falls. He is always there. and always faithful....no matter what. My husband and I were just talking about how we can look back over our lives and see how we were being taken care of. How we were being brought through things. We can see how it had to have been the hand of the Lord. We've never been more glad that we have put our faith in Jesus. He has never let us down, so why would He fail now? He won't!
It seems like we are always being surrounded by some sort of chaos; destruction from weather or fire, government deceit, senseless killings, or maybe sickness and disease. We now have all the news at our fingertips, and hardly any of it is good. But when we, in spite of all the bad things going on around us, still have a joy and a peace that makes no sense to others, then we are standing on the right foundation. "I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic." - Isaiah 28:16. We will not be going under. Why? Because we are not being held up by our own strength, but by the strength of the only One who we know will never let us down. The only One who has been, and will continue to be, faithful through every season of our life. So why would He fail now?
He won't! No! He won't!
"No one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ." - 1 Corinthians 3:11.
