Verse 1:
I spent so long searchin' for freedom
Living life like a rollin' stone
Runnin' blind only kept me from seein'
I was lost on a dead-end road
Didn't know I was looking for Jesus
Surely didn't know He was lookin' for me
I left my baggage at the station
And boarded the train to eternity
Chorus:
Now, I'm holy rollin'
I know where my soul is goin'
Cause I'm holdin'
A one-way ticket to the promised land
Bound for glory, that's what I am
Holy rollin'
Verse 2:
You see this train's full of sinners and heathens
But this train's full of stories of grace
It won't be long, we're all gonna meet Him
And He's gonna call each child by name
Bridge:
Down those streets of gold
My soul keeps singin' that song of old
Holy, oh, I'm holy rollin'
I can totally relate to this song. When I was going through life without Jesus, I was living like a rollin' stone. Like a person who changes his pursuits and goals with great frequency; like someone living a wandering or unsettled life. This is a life that is searching for freedom, but is really lost on a dead-end road. Kind of like when Israel wandered for 40 years in the desert before entering the promised land. None of us will ever find what we're looking for, we will never find true freedom, until we begin searching for the One that can give it all to us, the only One that can fill that void....Jesus.
When I finally found Him, I realized that all the time I was searching elsewhere, He was looking for me. Like when God was looking for Adam in the Garden of Eden, calling out, "Where are you?" Jesus is looking for us to begin looking for Him. "I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me." - Proverbs 8:17. I was then able to drop my baggage at the station. Baggage that held me down. Baggage that kept me from experiencing what true freedom actually means. Baggage of sin, shame, addiction, sickness, pain, fear, sorrows of life, and everything else that this world can hand down. Baggage of all my searching for things that didn't really matter. Things that were unable to save and redeem me. I dropped all of it at the station of repentance and boarded the train to eternity. My soul is free! I am now holdin' a one-way ticket to the promised land! I know where my soul is goin'. I am bound for glory, that's what I am. I no longer spend my time searching for things that take me nowhere.
Do I have company? Oh, yes! This train's chock full of sinners and heathens just like me, all of whom have their own stories of grace. We'll all meet Him and He'll call each one of us by name. We'll be walking down those streets of gold, singin' that song of old because....we are now holy rollin'!
So, have you dropped off your baggage?
Are you holy rollin'?
