Lookin' for You (Zach Williams)

Verse 1:

All the times that I worked hard because I believed

That life could have meanin' through things I've achieved

Well, You knew I was lookin' for You

Every time I thought romance might fill up the hole

That incomplete feelin' still ached in my soul

Oh, You knew I was lookin' for You

Chorus:

Down a hundred highways of empty pursuit

And a thousand foolish things I went through

Didn't know it back then but now I do

I was lookin' for You, I was lookin' for You

Verse 2:

When I couldn't find comfort in the things I could buy

When the party was over and the bottle was dry

Oh, You knew I was lookin' for You

Oh and I went searchin'

Bridge:

Through the canyons and the heartaches

And the valleys of pain

Down those pathways full of pleasure

And those dead-end roads of shame

Oh, I couldn't name the hunger

That I tried to satisfy

Ending:

Down a hundred highways of empty pursuit

And a thousand foolish things I went through

In a moment I looked up from down on my knees

And I cried out to Heaven, I could finally see

Jesus, Jesus, I know it's true

All of my life I was lookin' for You

Devotion

We all want to achieve success. We all want to have purpose and meaning in our life. We all want to find that special someone who will work alongside us with the same goals in mind. We work hard to be able to travel, see, and enjoy all this world has to offer. We work hard to have a family, possessions, all the while making plans for our future. But what is it that we're really looking for? Do we even know? Will all these things fulfill us? Will all these things make us happy? Yes....for a little while, but what then?

It all sounds good, doesn't it? And it is....but it's also chock full of problems along the way. All kinds of problems. We believe that what we achieve will give our life meaning. We believe that when we find the love of our life, we'll be happy. We hope that all the decisions we make throughout our life will be good ones. We believe our comfort will come with all the possessions we are able to acquire. We look forward to the next party, because we always come out of there feeling good. But in the end, none of it is anything like we thought it would be. None of these things are able to truly satisfy and make us happy. Oh, they all will....for a little while, but there is still a void. Yes, we may be able to achieve all our worldly pursuits, but none of these will fill the void that is felt deep down in our soul. A void that we were created with....for a reason. A void that can only be filled with one thing....Jesus.

We will find that no matter what worldly pathways of pleasure we travel down, our lives will still include emptiness, heartache, and dead-end roads. All the things we thought were going to make us happy all go away. They come to an end. They are all temporary, leaving us with the same void, the same hole, that we just can't seem to fill. That is until we stop looking to the world and begin looking to the only One that can fill that void....Jesus. "Do not love the world or anything in the world - the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life - comes not from the Fathere but fom the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever." - 1 John 2:15-17. Then we who were blind are able to see. We who were lost will now be found. We who mourn will now be comforted. We who realize that we are actually poor in Spirit, will find the kingdom of heaven. We who begin to hunger and thirst for righteousness will be truly filled.

In the moment we look up from down on our knees

Crying out to heaven, we can finally see

Jesus, Jesus, we know it's true

All of our life we were lookin' for You!

What is it that you are lookin' for?
