Verse 1:
Just ask the waves
If they are stilled at the mention of His name
They'll say my God is still the same
Ask the walls
If they still fall at the mighty sound of praise
They'll say my God is still the same
Chorus:
When did He break His promise?
When did His kindness fail?
Never has, never will
My God is still the same
When did He lose His power?
When did His mercy change?
Never has, never will
My God is still the same, yeah
My God is still the same
Verse 2:
Just ask the words
You prayed in desperation if they're heard
They'll say my God is still the same
Ask the grave
If it's strong enough to keep hope in its chains
It'll say, "God is still the same."
Yeah
Bridge:
Not once did He ever stop moving
Not once has He ever let go
Not once did He ever stop proving
Our God is in control
My God is still the same. The Father of heavenly lights does not change like shifting shadows. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is Alpha and Omega, who is, who was, and who is to come. So, whatever the Word says that He did, He still does today. Whatever the Word says that He could do, He can still do today. Those who do not know God and are not followers of Jesus, think this is foolishness and do not understand, as this knowledge is found only through the Holy Spirit. God is still working today exactly as the Bible says He did in the past, doing all things through His promises, kindness, mercy, and power.
Just ask the waves: God gathered the water of the seas under the sky to be separate from dry ground. He made the sand a boundary and an everlasting barrier that the sea cannot cross. Jesus rebuked the wind and hushed the waves, stilling the storm to a whisper, making it completely calm. Exactly as He did then, He still does for us today. He gathers the seas of trouble and trials that try to overwhelm us. The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail; they may roar, but they cannot cross His barrier. He stills the storms of our lives to a whisper with a calm that is beyond our realm of understanding. My God is still the same.
Ask the walls: Just like Joshua's army marching around the city of Jericho until the walls collapsed, the walls of our troubles will also collapse if we keep God in the forefront as the Captain of our Salvation. This city, and others, were fortified with high walls, but were defeated with long blasts on the trumpets and loud shouts of praise. We must keep blasting our trumpets of the good news of God's glory, and praising Him, especially in the midst of whatever comes against us. My God is still the same.
Ask the words that we pray in desperation if they are heard: He tells us to call on Him in our day of trouble, that He will deliver us. He tells us not to fear for He is with us. That when we pass through the waters of pain, He is there. That the rivers of this life will not sweep over us, the fires will not burn us, and the flames will not set us ablaze. No trial will be too great, all being unable to overtake us as He will always provide a way out. He has left us His peace and His grace that is sufficient, for His power is made perfect in our weakness. My God is still the same.
Ask the grave: The women that came to Jesus' tomb was told "He is not here; He has risen just as He said." Jesus is the Living One who was dead, but is now alive forever. He holds the keys of death and Hades. Death is our last enemy to be destroyed. "Where, O death is your sting? Where, O death is your victory?" Jesus is the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Him will live, even though they die. The same power that raised Jesus will also raise us. It is through baptism that we are buried with Him unto death so that we may live a new life while we are on this earth, telling others of this good news and helping them to do the same. My God is still the same.
His promises will not be broken and His kindness will never fail. He is not human, so does not lie or change His mind as we all do. His plans for us are for prosperity in hope and a future. Through Him our strength is renewed so we are able to soar on wings like eagles, run and not grow weary, walk and not be faint. He promises to wipe every tear from our eyes, that we will see a time when there is no more death, mourning, crying, or pain. My God is still the same.
His mercy will never change. It is because of His great love for us that we are not consumed. Through His mercy, He has made us alive with Christ while we were dead in our sin. Through the resurrection of Jesus, He has given us new birth into a living hope. He has saved us, not through righteous things that we have done, but because of His great mercy. My God is still the same.
His power will never be lost. We may wonder where God is. When we look around at all the chaos, hate, pain, and suffering, we may wonder what He is doing. Does He see this? Is He watching as people turn their backs on Him, thinking that He is nowhere to be found? Oh, yes, He sees, He hears, and He knows. He is allowing us time to choose whom or what we will worship. He is allowing us time, if we so choose, to increase our faith, as from this comes our victory. Victory of overcoming the world. Victory of being born of God, the God who is still the same.
So, how about is? Is your God still the same?
