Verse 1:
When your week feels like a beat down
And you can't tell the night from day
And you're tired of fighting battles
When all you feel is pain
Oh, it's a heavy weight
There's hope on the horizon
Cause the cross was not the end
Let joy come in the morning
And, child, lift your head
Don't you give up yet
Chorus:
Keep on holdin' on
There's gonna be a breakthrough
Keep on holdin' on
Don't stay buried in that grave
If He can roll the stone
He can send the darkness runnin'
Might feel like Friday
But your Sunday's comin'
It might feel like Friday
But your Sunday's comin'
Verse 2:
So let your soul start singing
And dry those tear-stained eyes
There's a new life and you can breathe in
You're gonna see the light on the other side
Bridge:
For the mama's praying for their family
Your Sunday's comin'
For the daddy's struggling to make ends meet
Your Sunday's comin'
And if addiction's bringing you to your knees
Your Sunday's comin'
Oh, if anybody here wants to be set free
Your Sunday's comin'
"It might feel like Friday." What does this mean? Well, Friday's the day that Jesus was crucified. Matthew, Chapter 27, gives us the details. He was arrested and brought before Pilate, with the gathered crowd shouting to have Him crucified. He was flogged and mocked, with a crown of thorns being pressed down upon His head, then was forced to carry His cross up to Golgotha. The powers in charge had heard Him say He would be resurrected, so upon His death, a large stone was rolled in to block the opening of His tomb. They didn't want there to be anyway He could escape. That particular Friday, for Jesus, could not have been any worse.
We all have 'Friday's.' Times in our life when our weeks beat us down. Times that we can't tell night from day. Times when we're tired of fighting the battles, cause all we feel is pain. The song is right...it's a heavy weight. None of us are exempt. None of us are able to escape the 'Friday's.' The days when we find ourselves facing some sort of darkness. A darkness that is like the inside of a tomb where no light can break through. And just like the powers that didn't want Jesus to escape His tomb, Satan will do his best to see that we don't escape ours, rolling in a stone that we have no strength to move.
The Bible tells us that as Jesus hung on the cross, waiting to die, the chief priests, teachers of the law, and the elders mocked Him saying, "He saved others, but he can't save himself!" Little did they know that He could have saved Himself, as He had at His disposal all the powers of His heavenly Father. But there was a purpose for what He allowed them to do to Him. A divine, spiritual purpose. A gospel, good news, purpose. He knew that His 'Sunday' was coming!
"Your Sunday's comin'!" What does this mean? Oh Praise! Sunday's the day that, through our prayers, we are set free from all our struggles and addictions that drove us to our knees! Sunday's the day of our breakthrough! Sunday's the day our stone is rolled away, and our darkness is sent runnin'. This is our hope on the horizon and our joy in the morning! This is where we get our needed strength to hold on. This is the drying of our tear-stained eyes and the singing of our soul! This is where we find our breath, being able to breathe in an entirely new and different life! Because through Jesus, oh yes, our Sunday's comin'!
"Keep on holdin' on! There's gonna be a breakthrough! Keep on holdin' on! Don't stay buried in that grave! If He can roll the stone, He can send the darkness runnin'! It might feel like Friday, but your Sunday's comin'!"
So, are you experiencing a 'Friday?'
